Charcuterie boards for Hangry kids
by Joan Doan
With most daycares and camps still closed, more kids are home for the summer than ever before! It’s not easy to get your kids to try new snacks, and yet you’ll often catch them lingering around the kitchen “hungry”.
Joan Doan, WFH mom of two growing boys, shared with us how she satisfies their appetites while sneaking in some healthy snacks.
I often ask my boys what they want to eat for a snack when they’re acting hangry and they respond, “I don’t know”. 🤦🏼♀️
So, I started making charcuterie boards for them. Sounds fancy, but it’s actually fairly simple to do. And, depending on how much time I have between work calls, some are more elaborate than others. You can try a mix of healthy and fun foods, and slip in some new things they haven’t tried yet.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I include carrots, hummus, pita bread, pretzels, almonds, cheddar cheese, Colby cheese, grapes, sliced apples, pepperoni, strawberries, blueberries, really whatever fruits or cheeses you have on hand.
I put the board on the table while they are reading, coloring, watching TV, etc. and before I know it, the board is almost clean.
That’s not to say they can’t enjoy other sweets and treats from time to time, too.
Good luck to all the working moms trying to get their kids to eat healthy this summer!
